An Interview With Cinemassacre's Mike Matei

It's safe to assume quite a number of you are familiar with and if not then you're probably familiar with the series which seemed to skyrocket the sites popularity; James Rolfe's ‘Angry Videogame Nerd'. Cinemassacre is a great site dedicated to video content, whether its movie reviews, gaming reviews, or original web series, there's something for everybody. The AVGN reviews Fester's Quest (NES) and The Addams Family (Genesis). The AVGN reviews Total Recall (NES), Last Action Hero (NES), Conan (NES), Commando (NES), Predator (NES).

Indeed, Rolfe also commented during an interview with The Guardian of the show's impact in the current generation of the video game industry, saying that they "still relate to it and they like learning of the past". If you consistently find yourself at places with spotty Internet connectivity - when driving to work or at home, for example - and you love watching videos, then 's downloading feature is aimed at you.

The AVGN reviews Rambo (NES), Rambo: First Blood Part II (SMS), and Rambo III (SMS) The Nerd uses the last few minutes of the review to address the title of the latest Rambo movie, adding to points made in his Chronologically Confused about Movie Titles video.

He objected to comments, supposedly written by the Nerd's fans, that made "unfair comparisons between the two of them." This would later escalate into a series of tongue-in-cheek video responses between The Nostalgia Critic and Angry Video Game Nerd, with the two daring each other to review certain materials.

James Rolfe and Co. have extended the one-note joke of AVGN to be a love letter to schlock and in Mike Matei doing so made a movie that's almost review proof. Also, they deliberately left out the slide and charge shot because they wanted to capture the gameplay feel of MM2 as it was voted as the greatest game in the series.

The one thing I really like about your videos Mike, are the tips and hints you give. Yet the one I enjoyed the most revolved around James Rolfe and Mike Matei of Cinemassacre as they celebrated the 10th Anniversary of Cinemassacre. And I've play a lot of crap games.

There are a few videos where Mike Matei does a game review with Inspector Gadget, his most notable collaboration is "Minecraft with Gadget", where Gadget pokes fun at the series repeatedly by calling the game "Mineycrafty" and "Minecrap", and saying that hes having a lot of fun building "brown bricks" in the game.

The AVGN reviews Ghostbusters (NES). Megaman 9 & 10 are both great games, and are a helluva lot of fun. Your reviews are great Mike and you are the reason why I finally tried and now love the Dark souls series. In response to them and to the games, he derives comic appeal from excessive and surrealistic use of fantasy scenarios, anger, profanity and habitual consumption of alcohol while reviewing video games.

Also, they deliberately left out the slide and charge shot because they wanted to capture the gameplay feel of MM2 as it was voted as the greatest game in the series.

The AVGN reviews the Nintendo Power Glove, the first time he reviews something other than just a game. Helping in Rolfe's ideas eventually turned into guest appearances as game-related characters, but because he doesn't consider himself an actor, Mike greatly prides himself on his artistic and technical contributions.
